Despite Universal Basic Education (UBE), which provides free education for the first nine years of schooling in all Nigerian states, social, traditional, and cultural barriers, as well as infrastructural deficits, continue to be major factors discouraging parents from enrolling their children, particularly girls, in school.

We Won! AREAi was selected as the winner of the 2022 LEAP Challenge Project, hosted by Solve-MIT and the Jacobs Foundation. Earlier this year, Aid for Rural Education Access initiatives joined the LEAP Challenge using AREAi’s flagship program, Fastrack.

The Digital Skills Accelerator program of the Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative, aimed at training 300 secondary school girls in basic digital skills across ten secondary schools in Nigeria’s Federal Capital, Abuja.

The desire to ensure that all children can exercise their fundamental right to learn inspires AREAi to remain a driving force in the education world and to be recognized where it matters.

The year 2022 began with a goal of ending learning poverty and transforming education by expanding the reach of AREAi’s flagship program, FastTrack, to provide foundational literacy and numeracy skills to 2,500 out-of-school refugee children in 4 Internally displaced camps.

Imagine a child who is in primary 3 and can’t pronounce the word “cup” correctly. Nor can he identify the letters in the word “mother.” Imagine children randomly picked from Primary 4, and they can’t do a normal subtraction of two digits nor identify mathematical symbols like subtraction, Plus, Division. How bad!
