AREAi launches Centre for Digital Development and Innovation Research (CDDIR)

AREAi launches Centre for Digital Development and Innovation Research (CDDIR) in a media briefing held this day the 12th of September 2024

The Centre for Digital Development and Innovation Research seeks to be a leading do-think tank that will create a supercluster of digital innovation, expertise, and skills development for the consistent use of robust evidence to inform ecosystem activation, policy formulation, resource allocation, and program implementation. With a focus on access to digital connectivity for education and promoting comprehensive strategies for digital literacy and skill development, AREAi is leveraging the promise of digital innovation, technology, and research to advance and promote comprehensive strategies for digital infrastructural development for the advancement of learning and teaching, particularly in rural spaces and resource-constrained environments.

CDDIR will function across four technology strands:

  • Design Research for Digital Innovation
  • Digital Research and Capacity Development for Digital Transformation
  • Digital Learning Design and Assessment
  • Digital Technology Appropriation in Education

Design Research for Digital Innovation: We will provide technical guidance, methodologies, tools, platforms and applications that integrate the use of digital technologies and data into meaningful user experiences for ease of life and sustenance across all walks of life.

Digital Research and Capacity Development for Digital Transformation: We will work with state governments to build the foundations for digital transformation, including their transition to digital economies, governments, and societies including stimulating demand for digital applications, digital skills, and digital platforms to support governments, business, and individuals to participate more fully in the digital economy.

Digital Learning Design and Assessment: We will equip stakeholders with key digital learning strategies that promote active, equitable, and personally engaging learning experiences for learners from diverse backgrounds and support the evaluation of their effectiveness.

Digital technology appropriation in education: We will work on accelerating the adoption of digital technologies for teaching, learning, research, assessment, and administration across states in Nigeria.

At the heart of CDDIR is the major premise upon which learning and development are built: to help individuals, organizations, or systems see their strengths and build on them is far more effective than simply pointing out what they lack using digital technology and contextualized knowledge. We look forward to recounting our successes and lessons learned on how this institution will help its beneficiaries and stakeholders reap the benefits of digitalization and participate fully in the global digital economy.
