A landmark partnership aimed at training 450 educators and reaching over 16,000 students and community beneficiaries with foundational AI literacy across Northern Nigeria

Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, to implement Experience AI, a global artificial intelligence literacy programme, across Adamawa, Borno, Benue & the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative marks the first large-scale implementation of the Experience AI project in Northern Nigeria and represents a significant step towards closing the region’s digital skills gap by expanding equitable access to AI education in rural, underserved, and humanitarian communities. As Prince Gideon Olanrewaju, Global Executive Director, AREAi said, “This partnership is a testament to our resolve to enable access and opportunity for disadvantaged communities. We can’t afford to leave behind refugee populations and displaced learners in this AI revolution, and by working with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, we are not just teaching AI literacy; we are empowering a generation to innovate, solve problems, and drive positive change in their communities.” said
Through the partnership, 450 educators will be trained as certified Experience AI facilitators, enabling them to deliver engaging, classroom-ready AI lessons to an estimated 16,000 students and community beneficiaries across participating states in Northern Nigeria.
The programme introduces learners to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, how AI systems work, how they should be used responsibly, and how they can be applied to solve real-world problems within underserved and rural communities. As artificial intelligence continues to shape education, healthcare, agriculture, public services, and the future of work, foundational AI literacy is becoming an essential skill rather than a specialist discipline. Yet access to quality AI education remains uneven, particularly in conflict-affected and rural communities. The partnership seeks to ensure that geography does not determine who can participate in the opportunities created by emerging technologies.

Since its launch, the programme has reached learners and educators in more than 196 countries worldwide, and has been credited with helping young people build practical AI skills through free, ready-to-use lesson plans and classroom resources.
