Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi) is a not-for-profit initiative that improves access and quality of education for marginalised and underserved children and youth across rural communities in Nigeria through resource mobilization, policy advocacy, economic empowerment and infrastructural support. The organisation uses a “10-months accelerated learning program” to create quality alternative formal and non-formal educational opportunities for out-of-school children and those in public schools to develop skills around digital literacy, cognitive problem solving and critical thinking, peer-to-peer learning and innovation as well as technology design and programming. With over 6000 direct beneficiaries across 8 communities as at December 2018, the organisation’s approach in fostering access to education in underserved schools, through mobilisation of material, physical and financial resources to drive tangible academic achievement and improved retention rates , was recognised by the United Nations’ International Commission on Financing Global Education Opportunity as a “leading innovation in Education”.
We are honest and transparent, accountable for our actions and efforts to our stakeholders (communities and donors) and maintain a consistently high moral standard. With this, we endeavor to build relationships of trust and strongly uphold our personal and organizational ethics.
We are accountable for our efforts and are answerable to all the parties involved as required. We value the roles entrusted to us by the rural communities and schools we work with.
We understand the significant of working with different stakeholders and therefore, we achieve our objectives by partnering with school administrators and teachers, partner NGOs, community heads, religious leaders and other community stakeholders, corporate organizations and passionate volunteers.
We go the extra mile to develop innovative programs and projects that can enable us achieve our vision in the most effective and efficient ways possible. We tend to develop new creative solutions to address the challenges highlighted while improving on the existing solutions and creating room for constant improvement.
We have our eyes set on the state of education in rural Africa and are ready to create transformation in this sector. We continually design new programs while assessing the old ones and then, improving our knowledge of the issues and how best we can address them through learning, research and technology.
